About the Role:
As the Head of Program and Project Management, you will lead and oversee key product development initiatives, ensuring the successful delivery of product development projects that align with Nel’s strategic objectives. A key initial focus will be implementing and embedding a fit for purpose stage-gate model, capturing all stages in the development process from initiation to launch.
This is a high-impact role where you will also mentor and guide a small but dedicated team of project managers. Reporting to Nel’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO), you will provide regular updates to senior leadership on program progress, risk, and outcomes, and play a critical part in driving continuous improvement in our project management practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and develop a best-in-class Program and Project Management Office (PMO) for product development projects;
- Introduce and implement an efficient stage-gate model, fostering a culture of efficient governance and accountability;
- Oversee planning, execution, and delivery of multiple cross-functional projects within Nel’s electrolyser portfolio;
- Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders across R&D, operations, products, and business functions to ensure projects are aligned and meet their objectives;
- Lead and mentor a small team of project managers, building project management capability within the organization;
- Take on the role of project manager for selected key projects, driving them to successful completion;
- Monitor and report on program progress, risks, and outcomes, providing transparent updates to senior leadership.
Your Profile:
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, with an MBA or equivalent, ideally complemented by industrial project/product experience;
- Proven experience working with stage-gate models and in the successful product deliveries of industrial or technology projects;
- Strong portfolio project planning skills, with a history of collaborating across multidisciplinary teams and functions;
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical information and engage stakeholders at all levels;
- Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail and the ability to address technical challenges efficiently;
- Ability to lead, motivate, and guide teams toward shared goals, while maintaining a structured and organized approach to tasks.
