CONTEXT & JOB DESCRIPTION

The Electronics Unit of the ISDD Detector & Electronics Group provides in-house expertise in control instrumentation and electronics. The unit is responsible for a wide range of activities, including the procurement, manufacturing, installation, and testing of standard equipment. It also handles technical analysis and troubleshooting of non-trivial control issues in the experimental stations and accelerator complex. These challenges often require evaluating commercial instrumentation, investigating alternative solutions, and developing custom components when needed.

As an Electronics Technician in the Electronics Unit, your main missions will be the following:

  • Install, maintain, and optimise control, synchronisation, and data acquisition electronics for the experimental stations and accelerator complex;
  • Test, diagnose, and repair electronic instrumentation to ensure their continued functionality and reliability;
  • Maintain and organize the laboratories, tools, and instrumentation of the unit to ensure optimal working conditions;
  • Participate in development projects, including integration of commercial systems, design and testing of electronic board hardware, and development of firmware.

EXPECTED PROFILE

  • Education: Technician degree (BSc, Licence, HND, HNC, BTS, DUT, Bachelor, or equivalent) in electronics;
  • Technical Skills: Hands-on experience with operating electronic instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, generators, and test fixtures;
  • Electronics Knowledge: Background in analogue and digital electronics design;
  • Computer Proficiency: Familiar with general use and instrument testing;
  • Bonus: Experience in electronic board design is a plus;
  • Team Player: Strong interpersonal skills, service-oriented, collaborative and able to work in multi-disciplinary teams;
  • Independent & Organised: Autonomous, methodical and adaptable;
  • Time Management: Able to multitask and meet deadlines;
  • Language: Proficiency in English (working language at ESRF).

WORKING CONDITIONS

The salary will be calculated on the basis of relevant qualifications and professional experience.
