As a Mechanical Equipment Engineer working on nuclear projects in a client design office environment, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Assist the Engineering lead (EL) in resolving technical issues related to equipment design, manufacturing, and qualification, while ensuring compliance with specifications through surveillance of design documentation;
  • Collaborate with other Mechanical Design Engineers to assure design interfaces (electrical, process and I&C) between the turnkey contract and wider plant;
  • Help manage interfaces between the Contractors equipment within the scope of supply and interfacing systems, contracts and buildings, while communicating effectively with the service contractor, client, and all other stakeholders;
  • Support the EL in risk management, configuration management, and preparation of governance meetings, including handling of Contract Transfer Sheets (CTS’s), Design Modifications (UKDCs), and Referential Evolution Requests (RER);
  • Assist the EL in responding to supplier requests such as RFI’s, IQs, or ERs, with appropriate assistance and sign-off from CEL as required;
  • Contribute to the development of action plans for Design Open Points (OP) and assist in the preparation of annual surveillance reports.

My profile

  • Bachelor/Master’s degree in a relevant engineering field (Mechanical, Process, Chemical)
  • Knowledge and design work experience with at least one of the following:
    • Pressure equipment such as valves and tanks – highly desirable;
    • Filters;
    • Piping and ducting;
    • HVAC;
    • Industrial Doors;
    • Rotating equipment (motors, pumps, compressors);
    • Heat-exchangers;
    • Emergency diesel generators.
  • Excellent leadership skills of large teams in complex environments;
  • Experience in highly regulated industry i.e. nuclear, oil & gas, energy, or public sector works is desirable;
  • Knowledge of UK regulatory requirements (CDM, COSHH, IRR, Environmental Permitting, etc.);
  • Experience with British/ISO standards and other design codes.
