CONTEXT & JOB DESCRIPTION
The ESRF is a world class research facility that produces intense X-ray beam for exploring matter at the nanoscale. Given the need for extreme accuracy, the exact positioning of all equipment within the facility is crucial. The Survey and Alignment Group is responsible for all surveying activities relating to the beamlines, the accelerator and the ESRF site as a whole. Your main responsibilities are surveying and mechanical activities.
Survey activities:
- Conduct fieldwork, including measurement and alignment, as part of the survey team;
- Assist with the installation, maintenance, alignment and calculation of:
- Magnets, vacuum vessels and other machine related equipment;
- Reference marks and monuments in optical and experimental hutches;
- Beamline instruments and equipment.
- Perform calculations and compile formal reports on surveying activities.
Mechanical activities:
- Create technical drawings for mechanical parts required by the group;
- Manufacture small mechanical components;
- Install and maintain the Hydrostatic Levelling System (HLS).
EXPECTED PROFILE
- Technician degree (BSc, Licence, HND, HNC, BTS, DUT, Bachelor, or equivalent) in geomatics (surveying), mechanical or dimensional metrology;
- Familiarity with SOLIDWORKS or other CAD software;
- Machining and mechanical skills;
- Ideally a minimum of two years of experience in surveying and/or mechanical-related activities. However, recent graduates with relevant trainee experience are encouraged to apply.
Interpersonal Skills:
- Excellent communication skills with a service-oriented mindset;
- Collaborative team player with a proactive and adaptable attitude;
- Analytical thinker with effective problem-solving skills;
- Proficiency in English, the working language at ESRF.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The salary will be calculated on the basis of relevant qualifications and professional experience.
