In this position, you will have the opportunity to:
- Support the design and optimization of lunar icy regolith processing and environmental control and life support (ECLSS) systems, focusing on process engineering principles to enhance efficiency and reliability.
- Apply materials engineering knowledge to select materials with high compatibility with space stations and lunar conditions, ensuring durability, resilience and compliance with space standards.
- Analyze, simulate, and optimize processes for extracting volatiles, emphasizing process efficiency and maximum yield.
- Analyze and simulate:
- sorption systems for capturing and storing volatile compounds, optimizing processes for maximum effectiveness.
- water treatment systems for effective water purification.
- water electrolysis systems to produce hydrogen and oxygen.
- Validate the performance of lunar regolith processing as well as ECLSS systems, analyzing data and recommending improvements.
- Identify, analyze and validate the processing of terrestrial materials (non-biological and biological) compatible with the volatiles extraction technology development roadmap and identify upgrades where needed to support terrestrial materials processing.
- Maintain detailed documentation of process designs, experiments, and results.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports and communicate findings to cross-functional teams.
Requirements:
- Degree in Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
- Proven experience in process engineering.
- Preferably strong background in materials science and prior work in the space industry.
- In-depth understanding of process engineering principles and methodologies.
- Proficiency in simulation and modeling tools for process optimization, such as use of DWSIM or Aspen.
- Knowledge of materials drying, sorption processes, water treatment, and electrolysis.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
