Senior Material Parameter Development Engineer

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
- Lead key projects for development and qualification of new material parameters for Nikon SLM Solutions’ next generation machines;
- Plan, conduct, and analyze experiments for parameter development employing statistical tools for data analysis to ensure high confidence level for material performance;
- Investigate and optimize key process variables with focus on process stability, part quality and productivity;
- Characterize and interpret material properties;
- Prepare comprehensive reports of experimental results for internal design reviews and external project updates;
- Develop, establish and optimize internal development processes and working instructions;
- Define and negotiate acceptance criteria and specifications for internal and customer specific machine acceptance test procedures and benchmark part production;
- Provide support for internal and external customers in application projects for early benchmarking of new material products;
- Support customized tool pathing strategies to enable design specific features and material performance;
- Optimize material chemistry and powder physical properties for best performance in Nikon SLM Solutions’ technology;
- Define future requirements for next generation PBF-LB/M machine products within the Nikon SLM Solutions family;
- Supervise external development programs regarding process research and material qualification;
- Participate in external government funded projects in collaboration with research institutes, external suppliers, competitors, and customers;
- Create external white papers and conference presentations.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Master's degree or equivalent certification in engineering field or materials science (e.g. mechanical, aerospace) or physics with focus on PBF-LB/M;
- 4+ years of professional experience in the field of material development and additive manufacturing;
- Familiarity with design of experiments and statistical analysis;
- Deep analytical skills and understanding of laser and powder bed interaction with regards to process stability and capabilities;
- Expertise in thermal treatments with regards to its response to microstructure and mechanical properties of different additive manufactured materials is required, including the understanding of the impact of material composition;
- Broad experience in material testing during the qualification process, for benchmark part production and for machine acceptance tests;
- Understanding of metal powder bulk physical behavior and testing methods;
- Familiarity with industry standards for the PBF-LB/M process, material specifications, testing procedures and thermal treatments;
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with experience working in an international environment.
