Defence Systems Engineer

Defence Systems Engineer

ARX Robotics

London, United Kingdom

The Role

We are looking for a Defence Systems Engineer (m/f/d) with expertise in military systems integration across mechanical, electronic, and software domains. This role is pivotal in ensuring seamless interoperability between robotic platforms and military systems, including sensors, effectors, communication networks, and mission control interfaces. You will work at the intersection of hardware, software, and battlefield applications, integrating cutting-edge technologies into unmanned ground systems (UGVs) to enhance their operational effectiveness in defense scenarios.

To join our team, you should be excited to:

  • Lead integration of military systems (e.g., effector modules, sensor payloads, communication systems) into robotic platforms;
  • Ensure compatibility of mechanical, electrical, and software interfaces for seamless interoperability;
  • Develop and optimize embedded software solutions for networking, mission planning, and real-time control;
  • Design and implement communication architectures (Ethernet, CAN, tactical radio networks) for secure data exchange between robotic platforms and battlefield systems;
  • Work on power distribution and system electronics to ensure reliable operation of UGV-integrated military modules;
  • Conduct system-level testing, validation, and certification for ruggedized robotic platforms operating in extreme conditions;
  • Collaborate with military stakeholders to define system requirements and ensure compliance with defense standards.

Your Profile

  • Strong expertise in multi-domain system integration (mechanical, electrical, and software);
  • Proficiency in electronics, embedded software, and communication networks for robotic systems;
  • Experience integrating defense-grade payloads (combat modules, sensors, radios, navigation systems) into robotic platforms;
  • Knowledge of military networking and data protocols (e.g., NATO STANAG, Link 16, tactical radio standards);
  • Hands-on experience with C++, embedded Linux, and real-time systems;
  • Ability to obtain EU security clearance (mandatory for working with defense technologies);
  • Master’s or PhD in Systems Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
