Job Summary

Black & Veatch is seeking a Senior SCADA Engineer to lead in the technical design of substation and renewable energy Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.

You’ll take a leading role on a variety of SCADA engineering and design activities in support of substation modernization and renewable energy integration.

The role can be based in our Glasgow or London office 3 days per week with flexibility to work from home 2 days.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the project team to generate engineering design documents and deliverables (drawings, points lists, configuration files, etc.) for systems and components related to the substation and renewable energy SCADA systems.
  • Oversight of lower-level engineering work or assignments.
  • Conceptual and detailed design of SCADA hardware, networking equipment, fibre networks, datalinks, Human Machine Interface (HMI) screens, and points lists.
  • You may also support with quality assurance checking, specification writing, standards development, factory acceptance testing, cyber security auditing, and commissioning support at sites or remotely.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Substation and renewable energy experience
  • Experience in developing control system network architecture diagrams, datalink points lists, control narratives, control logic diagrams, reading one-line diagrams, and procurement specifications for SCADA equipment
  • Experience with IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, OPC, and other control system protocols
  • Experience with VMware or other virtual environments
  • Experience with protective relays, substation and renewable energy automation systems
  • Experience with HMI screen development
  • Experience with UK NIS cyber security standards
  • Network troubleshooting skills and experience with network analysis tools such as Wireshark
  • Excellent writing, presentation, and verbal communication skills
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer

Minimum Qualifications

  • Previous controls system design experience for power projects
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering
  • Significant relevant work experience with proven ability to work independently and guide others
