Job Description

As a Chassis Design engineer, member of the Chassis Systems Design team of Applus IDIADA, your mission will be being involved in different design projects related to some of the chassis modules (Suspensions, Brakes, Steering system and Wheels & Tyres).

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Design ownership of Steering systems:
    • Define Package/Layout requirements of the Steering System (complete system except of Steering Wheel).
    • Perform linearity/fluctuation calculations/simulations.
    • Detail performance requirements at component and system levels.
    • Evaluate design options to create sourcing packages for expert suppliers.
    • Lead communications/technical discussions with suppliers to ensure that the design proposals are in line with the existing design restrictions and requirements.
    • Define validations plans and follow testing phases.
    • Ensure a proper integration of the whole system.
    • Maintain the BoM, ensuring a proper change control/management.
    • Support chassis team to achieve development milestones and releases, providing support in generating presentations, drawings, reports as per required.
    • Attend to prototype builds to ensure the correct assembly of the Steering components.
  • Support DFMEA generation.
  • Ensure DFM & DFA are implemented on the design.
  • Writing technical/scientific documentation and monitoring reports.
  • Participation in project meetings and in cross-functional design reviews.
  • Work alongside other technical departments.
  • Contribute with new proposals for R&D projects.

Qualifications

Education:

  • University degree: Bachelor or Master Degree in Engineering. Specialised in Mechanics or in Automotive.

Language Skills:

  • Fluent English.
  • Other Languages will be asset.

Profile Requirements:

  • Previous automotive OEM experience with Electric Power Steering Racks, Electric Power Steering Columns, Intermediate Shafts and Tie-Rods is highly valuable. (Tier 1 component experience also considered).
  • Understanding of working principles of chassis systems.
  • Knowledge of main manufacturing techniques and materials used in chassis systems design.
  • CATIA V5 2D/3D skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of CAE and simulation tools will be an asset (ADAMS, Patran/Nastran, etc.).
  • Knowledge of GD&T principles and tolerance analysis.
  • Good communication skills and confident in discussions at different hierarchical levels.
  • Recognizable empathy, with team spirit, and with high level of assertiveness

  • Open to work in a very international company with multicultural team.
  • A proactive and flexible attitude.
  • Willing to work abroad.
