A fantastic opportunity has become available for an engaged and innovative Mechanical Design Engineer in the Mechanical Design group.
Reporting to one of our Lead Mechanical Design Engineers, based in the Driver Controls Group, you will undertake design projects from concept, through to design, testing, and integration on the race car.
Using a creative, analytical approach alongside detailed design work, you will support senior engineers with large projects as well as projects of your own.
Key responsibilities/Duties:
- Take technical ownership of a variety of projects on the car’s control systems, encompassing both metallic and composite design from concept, through testing to implementation on the race car;
- Generating 3D models, Assemblies and 2D drawings including defining and documenting manufacturing information;
- Support in the definition and management of performance & reliability lab testing programs for relevant designs & projects;
- Reliability management of assigned systems throughout component life cycle and in support of the team’s reliability function;
- Close collaboration with internal and external manufacturing departments to ensure fully integrated designs that achieve optimal car performance;
- Understand and drive cost effective design solutions.
Essential skills and experience:
- Mechanical, automotive or aeronautical degree (2:1 minimum grade) or similar;
- Experience within high level motorsport/engineering an advantage;
- Proven in-depth understanding of mechanical design and its application with a solid first principles understanding, materials and manufacturing techniques;
- Experience of Catia V5/3DX solid modelling and surfacing design package would be beneficial;
- Use of finite element analysis tools (ideally with Catia V5/3DX package) and hand calculation methodologies to produce reliable and optimised designs is a significant benefit.
