Overview:
We are looking for a Senior expert with a strong technical background in synthetic diamonds to develop and lead projects for the fabrication of controlled NV-arrays and quantum microprocessor architectures in a technical industry role.
Mission:
As a Senior/Principal Diamond Materials Engineer, you will play a key role in one of our largest R&D programs by developing novel and advanced microwave-assisted CVD processes for the fabrication of diamond epilayers to build quantum microprocessors.
The role will be based in our state-of-the-art labs located at the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics (IAF) in Freiburg im Breisgau, where you will work closely with a highly skilled team of diamond material engineers and with our Program management team to solve technical challenges, define milestones and lead joint research projects. The role offers the unique experience of undertaking world-class research in an industry environment with a strong commercial purpose.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Responsibility for running and developing processes for MW-assisted CVD diamond epilayers and supporting NV fabrication and characterization.
- Plan and perform advanced diamond materials characterizations.
- Complex project planning and execution, ensuring timely delivery alignment with roadmap objectives, and effective resource management.
- Work closely with the Program Manager to provide technical expertise for roadmap development and program planning.
- Identify new and interface with external R&D partners, industrial suppliers and services.
- Share expertise and provide mentorship to technicians or young process engineers, actively contributing to their professional growth.
- Contribute to strategic IP and Company knowledge database.
- Represent the Company at international events.
About You:
- PhD in Physics, Material Science, Chemical Engineering or similar discipline.
- Consolidated (10y) academic and industry background focused on diamond growth by PA-CVD, i.e. designing, maintaining and upgrading CVD reactors.
- Hands-on experience with UHV setups.
- Good understanding of materials characterization techniques (e.g. Raman spectroscopy, AFM, XRD, XPS, SIMS).
- Familiar with working in a project environment (e.g., in a publicly funded project or commercial projects).
- Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills. (Team Leadership would be a plus).
- Can-do attitude with strong problem solving.
- Excited about emerging technologies and working in a start-up company .
- Knowledge in quantum technologies and NV physics is a plus.
