The Role

AIRMO is seeking a talented and hands on Hardware Engineer to lead our prototyping efforts for key air and space instruments. In this role, you'll be at the forefront of developing advanced hardware for satellite payloads, focusing on rapid iteration and creative problem-solving.

Your responsibilities in AIRMO

As a key member of our team, you will lead the management of the InCubed project, ensuring it aligns with our strategic goals and delivers on time and within budget. You will also take the lead in shaping and submitting proposals, identifying new opportunities, and securing funding to support our mission of advancing satellite technology for environmental monitoring.

Your tasks will include, but are not limited to

  • Design, build, and test hardware prototypes for AIRMO's key instruments
  • Create rapid, iterative prototypes and custom parts using various fabrication techniques
  • Assemble, modify, and troubleshoot complex hardware systems
  • Collaborate with optics engineers on the design and testing of optical components
  • Perform comprehensive testing, including performance, environmental, and system validation
  • Innovate with a "pirate mentality," exploring unconventional approaches to engineering challenges
  • Maintain detailed documentation of hardware designs, iterations, and test results
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate hardware into payload systems

What you should bring to AIRMO

The ideal candidate will have

  • Degree or equivalent experience in mechanical, aerospace, or electronics engineering
  • 2+ years of experience in hardware development, preferably in aerospace or robotics
  • Strong expertise in prototyping, including 3D printing, CNC machining, and manual fabrication
  • Hands-on experience with soldering, assembling, and debugging electronics
  • Familiarity with optical systems, including lenses, mirrors, and alignment processes
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and a creative, "think-outside-the-box" mindset
  • High tolerance for experimentation and drive to test, learn, and improve
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while balancing multiple priorities
  • Enthusiasm for climate-tech and passion for hardware innovation
  • Fluency in English, both spoken and written

Requirements

The minimum requirements for applicants include

  • Ability to set up a Raspberry Pi in under 10 seconds
  • Skill to design a lens casing in a blink of an eye
  • Comfortable with rapid prototyping and on-the-fly problem-solving
