Mechanical Design Engineer

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing and development of Moby (Mobile protective pod). This role requires a creative problem solver with a strong understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing processes.
Tasks:
- Design & Development: Create detailed mechanical designs and 3D CAD models for wheelchair components, including frames, mechanisms, and accessories, with a focus on functionality, durability, and aesthetics.
- Prototyping & Testing: Develop and test prototypes to validate designs, ensuring they meet performance, safety, and compliance standards. Incorporate iterative feedback into design improvements.
- Material Selection: Research and select materials for components, balancing factors such as cost, strength, weight, sustainability, and manufacturing feasibility.
- Design Modifications: Independently implement design modifications and adaptations to meet evolving requirements or resolve technical challenges.
- Documentation: Prepare precise engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation, ensuring full compliance with relevant regulatory and quality standards.
- Supplier Collaboration: Work closely with suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and meet quality expectations.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with stakeholders, including design, engineering, and product teams, to integrate innovative features and continuous improvements into the product.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering or comparable
- Previous experience in mechanical design, preferably in the healthcare, mobility, or consumer products industries
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software namely Fusion 360
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes (e.g., welding, injection molding, CNC machining)
- Experience in G-suite, Jira and confluence is an advantage
- You are characterised by an independent and self-responsible way of working, flexibility and the ability to work in a team
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Hands-on experience with workshop equipment and testing tools
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the medical device industry.
- Experience with surfacing and complex shape development.
- Understanding of regulatory standards and certification processes for medical devices.
- Knowledge of additional programming languages (e.g., Python, VHDL).
- Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment and testing tools.
