Mechanical Design Engineer

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing and development of Moby (Mobile protective pod). This role requires a creative problem solver with a strong understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing processes.

Tasks:

Design & Development: Create detailed mechanical designs and 3D CAD models for wheelchair components, including frames, mechanisms, and accessories, with a focus on functionality, durability, and aesthetics.
Prototyping & Testing: Develop and test prototypes to validate designs, ensuring they meet performance, safety, and compliance standards. Incorporate iterative feedback into design improvements.
Material Selection: Research and select materials for components, balancing factors such as cost, strength, weight, sustainability, and manufacturing feasibility.
Design Modifications: Independently implement design modifications and adaptations to meet evolving requirements or resolve technical challenges.
Documentation: Prepare precise engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation, ensuring full compliance with relevant regulatory and quality standards.
Supplier Collaboration: Work closely with suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and meet quality expectations.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with stakeholders, including design, engineering, and product teams, to integrate innovative features and continuous improvements into the product.

Requirements:

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering or comparable
Previous experience in mechanical design, preferably in the healthcare, mobility, or consumer products industries
Proficiency in 3D CAD software namely Fusion 360
Knowledge of manufacturing processes (e.g., welding, injection molding, CNC machining)
Experience in G-suite, Jira and confluence is an advantage
You are characterised by an independent and self-responsible way of working, flexibility and the ability to work in a team
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Hands-on experience with workshop equipment and testing tools

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in the medical device industry.
Experience with surfacing and complex shape development.
Understanding of regulatory standards and certification processes for medical devices.
Knowledge of additional programming languages (e.g., Python, VHDL).
Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment and testing tools.
