The Aptiv Connection Systems team has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join the North America Product Engineering Team with the position located in Krakow, Poland. The successful candidate will be a part of the Consumer Connectivity product portfolio. The Mechanical Engineer will design, develop and validate the mechanical aspects of electronic products that integrate technologies such as USB-PD, USB hub, HDMI, Qi wireless charging, NFC, LED lighting, and GSM. The candidate will provide innovative solutions and work with cross-functional teams to meet customer-driven, automotive industry specifications.
Your Role:
- Work directly with automotive OEMs and other Tier 1 suppliers to design products that meet customer functional and mechanical requirements;
- Oversee and/or create MCAD models and product drawings;
- Create change documentation for changes;
- Use MCAD programs for developing new components;
- Complete peer reviews of designs and design change activities;
- Work with supply chain management to provide cost analysis of Bill of Material (BoM) and component cost tradeoffs;
- Use analytical methods to verify operating boundaries and conditions for simulation team;
- Conduct detailed benchmarking, competitive and cost-tradeoff analysis for area of responsibility;
- Perform GD&T tolerance stackup analysis, DFMEAs, fault tree analysis and similar design disciplines;
- Perform bench level testing and prototyping;
- Complete checklists as necessary for following the product development process flow using ME workbook;
- Work with validation team to assist in developing proper equipment and processes for Design Validation (DV) and Product Validation (PV) of product;
- Mentor other department Mechanical Engineers in proper practices, industry standards and best practices;
- Ensure compliance with customer specific requirements;
- Create and conduct technical presentations to explain and sell new product designs;
- Support the cross-functional team including software engineering, electrical engineering, systems engineering, ECAD, MCAD, manufacturing, and SCM;
- Respond to and analyze mechanical test failures and provide required documentation and resolution plan.
Your Required Background (i.e., Must Haves):
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or similar;
- 3+ years relevant mechanical design experience and can demonstrate abilities;
- Demonstrated knowledge of proper design methods to meet automotive thermal, environmental, structural, and appearance requirements;
- Previous experience with design for manufacturing (DFM) process;
- Previous experience designing injection molded plastic components;
- Previous experience designing machined, cast, and stamped metal components;
- Previous experience with tolerance stack-up analysis and GD&T;
- Ability and willingness to travel as required;
- Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Tools;
- Strong results-orientation and execution characteristics;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with a strong ability to work with a team.
Your Preferred Background (i.e., Nice to Haves):
- Previous experience with SolidWorks and Siemens NX MCAD software;
- Previous experience designing, simulating, and testing LED lighting to customer requirements including light pipes and diffusers;
- Previous experience designing, simulating, and testing active and passive heat dissipation technologies integrated within a product;
- Previous experience in engineering components including inductive wireless chargers and magnets.
