The Director of Airframe is leading the engineering of the core competence teams “Structure Analysis”, “Design” and “Material & Processes”. The responsibility is to build the competencies and the resources to secure the deliverables of the Airframe unit. This includes defining the methods, processes and tools required to execute the activities along the product life cycle from early research and concepts phases, program development and continuous product support.

The position responsibility includes the processes and delegations compliant with the design organization for the relevant competencies within Airframe. The Director of Airframe Core Competence Unit is responsible for strategic decisions to ensure future benchmark positioning concerning competencies, working practices (such as agile and lean approaches) and the continuous assessment of trends and capabilities improvements (e.g. end to end digitalization).

The main tasks and responsibilities are:

  • Ramp up the required airframe competencies and capabilities according defined deliverables and agreed head count;
  • Leading disciplinary an airframe engineering with departments and teams including competence management and training concept;
  • Implement program and projects requirements into a resource planning including core and non-core activities and a viable sub-contracting policy;
  • Ensure adequate numbers of signatory candidates are trained and prepared for design delegation;
  • Implement and support company strategy with proper positioning of the airframe engineering determine future needs and trends.

You’ll bring this with you

  • Educated Engineering degree (BA Eng/Sc, MA Eng/Sc) in aeronautics/aviation or mechanical;
  • 10+ years professional experience in relevant fields of aircraft development and product requirements;
  • Wide proficiency of airframe requirements, design criteria, materials, methods and tools;
  • New product development experience of at least one new aircraft program;
  • Proven leadership experience and skill in managing an organisation with departments;
  • Strong communication and leadership skills;
  • Ability to prioritize, manage and execute multiple simultaneous tasks;
  • Assertive, pro-active, innovative and creative;
  • Very good English language skills, German language is a plus.
