Within the DTI, the purpose of the Project Engineering Manager (PEM) is to manage all design & engineering activities on a large industrial investment project (greenfield or complex float line cold repair, between approx. 70 and 170 M€).

Your primary responsibilities will include

  • Resources: in charge of forming the project team (including lead discipline engineers for civils, fluids, EIA, equipment…), employing external resources such as freelancers if necessary. Being also responsible for contracting external engineering companies in cooperation with Glass Central Engineering & Central Purchasing;
  • Cost control: Supporting the PM in establishing the project budget for engineering & design, optimizing it relative to the scope of work. Ensuring a close follow-up of the engineering & design expenses, aided by a cost controller. Being a key contributor to the change management process and be responsible for evaluating all change order requests issued by the external engineering company;
  • Quality control: Being accountable for the global design consistency, which is key for an efficient erection & performance of the line. Therefore, being responsible for thorough adherence to the Saint-Gobain Project Execution Manual for all aspects related to design & engineering. This includes design of supplied equipment and constructability of the line, and the organization of all necessary Design Reviews. Being a key contributor to the detailed Return of EXperience report post-project;
  • Schedule and document control: Creating a detailed timeline for all design activities, accounting for inputs coming from suppliers, and focusing on the consistency between the different disciplines. Establishing and follows, aided by a document controller, the comprehensive list of engineering deliverables, including all deliverables issued by the external engineering companies. Carefully monitoring design physical progress (S-Curve per discipline) and alerts for any risk of delay;
  • Safety: Being accountable for HSE Design of the line. Overseing the proper implementation of all safety-related standards (international, local or Saint-Gobain) on the project, and ensuring all safety-related reviews are correctly carried out (FMEA, HAZOP, etc). Overseing industrial risks are covered from a design standpoint;
  • Additional project duties: Contributing to the regular reporting of the project for design & engineering tasks (monthly steering committee, monthly report). Being responsible to set up all tools necessary for design execution, especially 3D mock-up management (Autodesk Construction Cloud, RevIt…) and document control (Bricksys);
  • Other tasks: in addition to the usual project activities, and depending on the workload, you might be involved in other activities such as:
    • Preliminary design of a project (step 0 of the PEM);
    • Conceptual design, costing and payback calculation of new projects.

Is this job for you?

Profile:

  • Education: Engineer (bachelor or master degree).

Knowledge/Technical competencies:

  • Significant experience in Project Management or Engineering Management of large industrial project;
  • Deep knowledge of several engineering disciplines (process, civils, mechanical, electrical…);
  • English skills: full verbal and written proficiency. French and/or Spanish are a plus.

Soft Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong analytical, planning and organizational skills;
  • Capable to communicate with a variety of stakeholders (blue collar, upper management, contractors…);
  • Successful track record in working in and with international teams.

  • Large industrial investment project for Glass plants (70 to 170 M€);
  • Responsibility over all Engineering & Design activities of a project;
  • International Projects: our plants are based in 14 different countries, project teams are multicultural, and suppliers are sourced worldwide;
  • Direct management of a project team between 5 and 15 people.

Travels/Mobility:

  • DTI Aubervilliers: from 45% during design phase to 0% during construction phase;
  • Home office: from 30% during design phase to 0% during construction phase;
  • Plant site and travels: from 25% during design phase to 100% during construction phase.
