OUR ACTIVITIES:

The company is involved in both upstream and downstream activities, contributing to the entire EO value chain.

• Earth Observation & Remote Sensing (Downstream Services);
• Emergency response and disaster management: The company actively participates in European space programs, such as Copernicus, providing satellite-based solutions for real-time monitoring and decision-making;
• Defense & Security: The company provides EO-based intelligence solutions to support law enforcement, defense and security operations, including border surveillance, situational awareness, and intelligence gathering;
• Environmental Monitoring: Planetek Hellas focuses on environmental management through the use of satellite data, offering solutions for monitoring ecosystems, land use, water resources, and air quality;
• Land Monitoring & Urban Planning: The company provides services for urban growth analysis, land use and land cover monitoring, and infrastructure development;
• Geospatial Data Infrastructure: Planetek Hellas develops geospatial data infrastructures and platforms that enable efficient management, processing, and sharing of large geospatial datasets;
• Space Segment (Upstream Services);
• Satellite Mission Design & Support: Planetek Hellas plays a crucial role in the development and design of satellite missions, offering expertise in the architecture of EO satellites and their payloads;
• Ground Segment Solutions: The company provides solutions for the ground segment, including satellite data reception, processing, and management systems;

POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a talented Computer Vision and Earth Observation Specialist to join our team. You will play a crucial role in developing and applying innovative computer vision techniques to analyze Earth observation data. Your work will contribute to a wide range of applications, such as environmental monitoring, urban planning, and disaster response.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop and implement computer vision algorithms for processing and analyzing Earth Observation (EO) data (e.g. object detection, image segmentation and change detection);
• Process, analyze and interpret multi-source EO data to support environmental monitoring, land use, agriculture, forestry, disaster management, as well as safety and defense applications;
• Develop and maintain codebases for EO applications, ensuring high performance, scalability;
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to address specific research questions and project goals;
• Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in computer vision and EO technologies.

BACKGROUND AND REQUIREMENTS:

Academic:

• Degree in areas such as Surveying Engineering, Forestry, Environment, Geography, Physical Sciences or Geology;
• Master’s degree or proven experience in Geoinformatics, Computer Vision, EO Geospatial science, or a related field.

Other requirements:

• Proven experience in satellite imagery analysis and solid understanding of EO (Multispectral, SAR and hyperspectral) data;
• Experience in EO/GIS software, such as ArcGIS, QGIS, SNAP and ERDAS Imagine;
• Know-how and experience in Machine Learning techniques and deep learning frameworks (e.g. TensorFlow, PyTorch);
• Knowledge of at least one scripting language (Python, R) and of key libraries for geospatial data and remote sensing tasks.

Language skills:

• Fluency in Greek and English.

Other skills:

• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines;
• Attention to detail and good problem-solving skills;
• Communication and collaboration skills, with ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.

The ideal profile of the successful candidate is completed by seriousness and reliability, strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills; ability to work within a team in order to meet specific objectives; and excellent communication skills combined with proactivity.
