We are seeking a RF Communication and Ground Station Engineer (m/f) to join the team and undertake the responsibilities of developing and maintaining Radio Frequency (RF) communication systems and ground station antenna technology for space communication on-site in Darmstadt, Germany. The role supports various mission and project teams by focusing on technology development, testing, and validation of communication systems, as well as maintaining and setting RF space communication standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and maintain ground station antenna architecture and related subsystems for space communication;
Provide novel operations concept for spacecraft telemetry, tracking & control (TT&C) and payload systems for varied communication solutions, including deep-space and Near-Earth missions;
Apply signal theory techniques, such as modulation, coding, and signal processing;
Conduct RF link budget analyses;
Study RF propagation through the Earth's atmosphere and interplanetary plasma;
Characterize and utilize radiometric techniques for satellite navigation, including ranging and Doppler measurements;
Test and validate space communication and ground station antenna systems;
Explore and support space communication at optical wavelengths.

Support Activities:

Stay updated with scientific and technological trends, maintaining expertise in RF communication systems and ground station technology;
Encourage innovative concepts and cutting-edge technologies in multidisciplinary activities;
Perform technical analyses and trade-offs in ground station antenna design and ground-to-space link operations;
Define advanced link optimization concepts, such as ground station antenna arraying and weather-based RF propagation mitigation;
Support mission development from initial concept to operations, including participating in project reviews;
Execute RF system compatibility tests between spacecraft subsystems and ground station antennas;
Conduct ground station system characterization and validation tests;
Participate in critical mission phases and routine operations as an RF communication and ground station expert;
Develop technical specifications and statements of work for ground station engineering and communications, participate in design reviews, and ensure acceptance tests align with regulatory standards.

Qualifications:

Deep understanding of RF communication systems and ground station antenna technology for space communications;
Experience in signal processing, modulation techniques, and RF link budget analysis;
Strong background in system testing and validation for space communication;
Ability to stay current with new technologies and trends;
Experience with space mission support and operations.

Other Requirements:

Engage in multidisciplinary activities and innovative projects;
Participate in industry conferences and standardization efforts.
