DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented Senior Controls Engineer to join our team specializing in Manufacturing for our PED in Huddersfield, United Kingdom .

This role involves designing, developing, and optimizing advanced control systems for our manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in control systems engineering, including expertise in PLCs, SCADA systems, and electrical control panel design. Key responsibilities include project management, ensuring safety and compliance, and mentoring junior engineers. This position requires a strong background in automation, a commitment to safety standards, and the ability to lead complex projects in a manufacturing environment.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Control Systems Development: Design and develop advanced control systems, ensuring they meet specifications and are reliable for manufacturing processes. Your expertise will enhance automation efficiency and reduce manual intervention;
  • Equipment and Software Optimization: Alter software and hardware configurations to optimize sensor and actuator performance, ensuring that all components function seamlessly. This will lead to increased accuracy and reliability in production;
  • Cost and Resource Management: Prepare detailed cost estimates and compile necessary equipment information. Your work will support budget management and resource allocation, contributing to cost-effective project execution;
  • Problem-Solving and Debugging: Investigate complex issues and change requests, providing technical solutions to enhance system performance. Your role in troubleshooting will ensure minimal downtime and efficient operations;
  • Safety and Compliance: Implement safety measures in the design and operation of control systems, including electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic safety. This will help maintain a safe working environment and compliance with industry standards;
  • Mentorship and Knowledge Transfer: Coach and mentor less experienced Controls Engineers, sharing your expertise in automation and control systems. Your guidance will help build a skilled and knowledgeable team;
  • Data Acquisition and Analysis: Implement and manage data acquisition systems, using the collected data to drive process improvements and quality control. Your efforts will support data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement;
  • System Security and Reliability: Develop and implement security measures for control systems, ensuring that manufacturing processes are secure from cyber threats. Your work will protect critical systems and maintain operational integrity.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Expertise in Controls Engineering: Proficiency in designing, developing, and implementing control systems, including PLCs, hardware, and software integration in manufacturing environments;
  • Strong Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues in control systems, identify root causes, and implement effective, data-driven solutions;
  • Effective Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to clearly convey technical information, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and mentor less experienced engineers;
  • Commitment to Safety: A proactive approach to identifying and mitigating safety risks, particularly those associated with controls-related hazards, ensuring a safe workplace.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

  • STEM Degree: Essential in Electrical, Control Systems, Automation Engineering, or related fields;
  • Project Management: Beneficial knowledge or certifications (e.g., PMP, Prince2) and experience in planning and executing projects;
  • Control Systems Expertise: Extensive experience in designing and optimizing control systems, including PLCs and SCADA;
  • Electrical Control Panel Design: Proficiency in designing control panels, ensuring safety and compliance;
  • Safety and Compliance: Experience in implementing safety standards and regulatory compliance.
