As an EV-Powertrain System Engineer, you will leverage your system-level understanding and system simulation expertise to actively support the development of Garrett's Electric Drive Unit product portfolio. You will engage in all phases of product development across the V-cycle, with a particular emphasis on developing a digital twin of the product. This role requires prior experience in multi-physics system-level simulation (0 and 1D) of electric powertrain systems for commercial vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct, document, and report various simulation studies to leadership on a committed timeline.
  • Support the development of cutting-edge in-house simulation models, capabilities, and methodologies to deliver state-of-the-art target settings and value assessments.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure the numerical tool chain's consistency and efficiency across the V cycle.
  • Develop advanced Electric Drive Units system-level models (Digital Twin).
  • Maintain relationships with top players in the field of expertise (universities, labs, suppliers, etc.) to anticipate trends, stay on top of industry best practices, define the best strategy for tools development, and report out in internal technical roadmap meetings.
  • Work with external engineering houses on ad hoc projects.
  • Participate in powertrain conferences and organizations to represent the company and follow industry trends.
  • Support or author technical papers and presentations.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in mechanical/Electrical Engineering with specialization or working experience in Automotive or Truck Powertrain system simulation.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in Truck Powertrain system simulation development for Hybrid Electric Trucks (xEV), Battery Electric Trucks (BET), and/or Fuel Cell Electric Trucks (FCET).
  • Direct experience with 0/1-D Multiphysics simulation tools such as GT-SUITE, WAVE, BOOST, AMESIM, MATLAB Simulink, or equivalent.
  • Good understanding of powertrain architecture, subsystems, key functionalities, high-level control, and thermal management.
  • Good understanding of the industry challenges related to Battery Electric Vehicles in general and Electric Drive Units in particular.
  • Good understanding of commercial vehicles (trucks, tractors, construction, etc.).
  • Excellent summarizing skills for project findings and reporting to leadership.
  • Good understanding of requirement management.
  • Additional languages (e.g., Spanish, French, German) are a plus.
