The Lead Process Engineer is an experienced individual contributor role. The successful candidate needs to have strong chemical engineering fundamentals and excellent process engineering skills. The person also needs to be comfortable with ambiguity and complexity. Last but not least, we are looking for energetic people with a positive attitude and a strong initiative and a sense of project ownership.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

This position is accountable for the following end results:

  • Deliver all objectives safely and achieve 100% compliance with safety requirements;
  • Produce deliverables of high quality and accuracy meeting project requirements and within budgeted timeline;
  • Thoroughly understand the technologies employed and the strengths and weaknesses of different designs or licensor options, and be able to select the most appropriate design to meet customer or project requirements;
  • Design process cycles and carry out process optimization using simulation software;
  • Generate and refine heat and material balances (H&MB) and develop process flow diagrams (PFD);
  • Perform detailed equipment design calculations and specifications for unit operations such as reactors, heat exchangers, adsorption systems, distillation columns, etc.;
  • Perform and refine calculations and produce duty specifications for machinery, vessels, control valves, relief devices, and other instruments;
  • Support P&ID development, operability reviews, hazard reviews, and model reviews;
  • Interface with third party equipment suppliers and technology licensors;
  • Work with proposal managers, product managers, technology department, and procurement to support bid work, new technology implementation, and product competitiveness initiatives;
  • Support plant start-up and lead plant performance testing;
  • Domestic and international travel to customer locations and plant sites is expected about 20% of the time.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in chemical engineering;
  • Extensive experience working for an industrial gas company, EPC firm, or in the oil and gas industry;
  • Have a solid understanding of engineering thermodynamics, fluid flow, and reaction kinetics;
  • Extensive prior experience in process modeling tools, preferably ASPEN Plus;
  • Demonstrated prior experience in process flow sheet development and optimization;
  • Familiarity with renewable diesel or refinery processes is a plus;
  • Familiarity with different H2 generation technologies is a plus;
  • Familiarity with ammonia and methanol synthesis processes is a plus;
  • Familiarity with hydrocarbon cryogenic distillation is a plus;
  • Broad prior experiences in different process technology areas is a strong plus;
  • Excellent oral and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills;
  • Self-motivated and a team player.
