The Senior Piping Technologist will play a leading role in providing leadership for Piping Stress and Supports of projects delivered by the E&C Business. Using technical experience and excellent people skills, will make independent decisions and recommendations for large independent projects and/or several small independent projects. Will provide recommendations reviewed for soundness of judgment but usually accepted as technically accurate and feasible. Its decisions involve execution of project related policies and processes for the project to meet business objectives. The role will provide a client facing lead for projects and ensure that Worley maintains the highest technical standards, levels of service and quality. The Senior Piping Engineer will direct and sustain technical and possibly administrative supervision over other professional engineers/designers/scientists. The position will require application of high engineering/design/scientific knowledge in stress and supports and in all aspects of managing the work (e.g. planning, budget, schedule, procurement, construction, execution, etc.). The assigned problems will require new or modification of established frameworks, guides, or policies and application of these to draw conclusions.

Specific accountabilities:

  • Perform basic and complex piping stress calculations. The calculations will be simplified or computational. High knowledge level of CAESAR 2 is a must and a solid background and experience in stress analysis and supports code requirements (ASME B31.3, EN 13480 and others) is required.
  • Submit final stress analysis reports for small or large systems.
  • Perform calculations for piping supports and know the most relevant catalogues and software to perform construction drawings. (i.e MDS or LICAD previous experience is recommended).
  • Experience in calculations of buried piping, expansion joints and non-metallic piping will be highly considered.
  • Knowledge of the reference suppliers for pipe supports standards and their catalogues.
  • Overall supervision of other technologists and guide for piping designers.
  • Develop, check and approve data sheets, material requisitions, calculations, specifications, design criteria and other technical documentation prepared by team.
  • Capability to supervise technically, perform code and specifications compliance verification and approval of others documentation. Experience working as owner engineering role is appreciated.
  • Forecast requirements for resources and allocate those resources.
  • Integrity of work scope and maintenance standards.
  • Prepare piping man-hour estimate to perform project tasks.
  • Promote alliance culture in piping engineering group.
  • Promote cost reduction and productivity enhancing initiatives.
  • Leading the delivery of technical outputs of projects and the seamless sharing of information with other discipline teams.
  • Carry out the responsibilities of a Lead Engineer in the Stress and Supports area on medium to large sized projects or provide technical support/leadership on small to medium size project.
  • Ensuring technical quality through implementation of best practice and continuous.
  • Representing Worley in liaising with clients and other design team members improvement processes.
  • Assisting in the preparation of technical and commercial bid proposals.
  • The ability to work within a team environment with a minimum of supervision and to both Company and Industry standards.
  • Operates well in a multi-company team environment.
  • The proven ability to oversee the preparation of design and detail drawings from sketches, plans or other design/specification data.
  • Review and comment on Contractor RFIs, material submissions, shop drawings and support project & construction management teams.
  • Preparation and checking of engineering and design deliverables.
  • Direct the work of both detail and design drafters and ensure the drawings are in accordance with the clients requirements and the relevant project specifications.
  • Have the experience to participate in design review with various clients and to advise on technical design and drafting issues and compliance requirements as appropriate.
  • Be able to demonstrate a proven track record of completing a given work scope within time and budget constraints.
  • Must have enough knowledge in piping layout, pipe routing, MTO control, material requisitions, bid evaluation and 3D design model reviews to be able to manage a team of specialists.
  • Responsible for issue of all piping deliverable documents for stress and supports discipline. Organize inputs, prepare all the deliverables documentation and supervise for preparation in case of working on a team basis.
  • Quality Assurance – Responsible for working within the provisions and guidelines of the Quality Assurance system relevant to the BU, etc.
  • Safety – Responsible for personal safety safe working practices for the BU, etc. Understand and follow OH&S procedures.
  • Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with proven leadership experience in Refinery and Petrochemical markets.
  • Has solid piping stress and supports experience in the Oil & Gas industry (10+ years).
  • Has a good background in piping engineering, including piping layouts, piping design and piping materials.
  • Has already been responsible for large teams.
  • Has high knowledge of the most relevant codes used in stress analysis and supports design.
  • Multi-office project execution experience.
  • Good knowledge of relevant IT systems. Stress analysis software (CAESAR2, Autopipe or any other) knowledge is a must.
  • Good knowledge of relevant 3d modelling design systems (PDMS, SP3D).
  • Experience and affinity with Project controls; Scheduling and progressing.
  • Should have experience in lead role for FEED and Detail Engineering projects with exposure to field engineering activities.
  • Enough knowledge of piping materials.
  • Experience in brown fields & asset services type project/contracts.
  • Extensive current design experience is required in piping engineering, piping stress, pipe supports, topsides & onshore plant equipment layouts and detailed piping design, all gained with notable design contractors and/or oil/gas companies within the petrochemical industry particularly with respect to offshore oil and gas installations.
  • Ability to report in in English, both verbal & in writing.
  • Flexible for business travelling.
