Role Summary:

As a Subsea Trees Lead Engineer, you will work within the Subsea Well Systems Engineering Organization, you will support requisition projects, and/or NPI/Product Structuring programs in alignment with Product Leader and Project Engineering Manager advices.

You will take part to the whole design cycle of subsea items, from concept development up to the final engineering release of parts, drawings and related documentation.

Essential Responsibilities:

In this position he/she will be required to:

  • Know and commonly deal with main industry standards governing design of subsea systems (ISO, API, ASME, NACE, DnV, NORSOK, EUROCODE);
  • Prepare and manage engineering tasks aimed to release engineering parts, drws and documentation of the assigned scope of work within complex engineering team assigned to fulfill the project scope;
  • Review Engineering/Customer's specifications and applicable standards, identifying design requirements;
  • Interact with Analysis and Materials representatives in order to validate the design of the items been part of the assigned work scope;
  • Define design concepts of items, contributing to 3D CAD modelling in CREO/IPEM environment;
  • Interact with Project Management, Sourcing and Manufacturing departments to ensure the required engineering support for procurement;
  • Interact with Project Engineering Manager, Product leads, Chief Engineering to get aligned to project goals and objectives, internal design practices or product validation and recommendations;
  • Ensure support during Test and Assembly activities in the shop (Montrose, Scotland, UK);
  • Ensure control of the assigned package in terms of: spent hours, resource engagement if any and relevant assignments, budget, cost of poor quality, engineering plan progress;
  • Be owner for design reviews of the assigned scope, including materials, manufacturing and product safety/environmental reviews;
  • Develop design concepts and create 3D models in CREO environment; create/review/release fabrication drawings in CREO/IPEM and part data management system (Teamcenter), following industry/company drafting standards and guidelines;
  • Create/review/release BOM’s in part data management system (Teamcenter); contribute to issue of project technical documents (FAT/eFAT/SIT procedures, user manuals, mobilization/demobilization procedures, assembly procedures, field service manuals,…); ensure all engineering documents are correctly archived; work with other contributors (3D designers, FE analysts, Materials engineer,…) in order to have BOM complete and in line with applicable engineering quality procedures/practices;
  • Take active part in design reviews, including materials, manufacturing and product safety/environmental reviews;
  • Support Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Sourcing (DFS) culture coordinating with discipline organization in the realization of optimized product safety, quality, efficiency;
  • Collect lessons learned meetings to drive improvements in product quality;
  • Comply with all department initiatives to meet performance and quality goals (On-Time-Delivery, Through-Put Yield, Engineering Change Orders);
  • Ensure equipment is designed in accordance with current Environmental, Health & Safety legislation/regulations and main industry standards;
  • Assist definition of project Engineering plan, providing necessary comments and feedback;
  • Liaise with manufacturing department and vendors to ensure design is suitable and allow efficient manufacture; follow up during fabrication of items;
  • Provide timely and regular information/updates to the Senior Management, Engineering Management, Senior Engineer, Lead Engineers or Project Engineering Managers;
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment;
  • Assist other Engineers and Managers as required;
  • Provide guidance and coach younger engineers for mechanical design-related issues.


  • Master’s Degree (5 years) in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent), or above;
  • Proven years experience in mechanical design, in particular of subsea pressure containing equipment and tooling;
  • Robust knowledge of geometric and dimensional tolerancing (GD&T), drafting practices and main manufacturing technologies;
  • Good knowledge of main subsea industry standards (ISO, API, ASME, NACE, DnV, NORSOK, EUROCODE);
  • Good knowledge of CAD tool CREO(PRO-E) and IPEM/TC database;
  • Ability to work autonomously and comfortably in a global multicultural environment;
  • Robust analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Team player attitude and inclusiveness, combined with good communication skills;
  • Proactivity and ability to take initiative and make decisions in uncertain changeable environment;
  • Proficiency with English (spoken and written).

Desired Characteristics:

  • Matured experience in Subsea installation/off-shore;
  • General knowledge of materials technology adopted within the oil & gas industry;
  • Knowledge of manufacturing technologies and processes used for “make” parts and components;
  • Previous Oil & Gas experience.
