Job Description

Boeing Phantom Works creates the next generation of products and services for the Boeing Defence, Space & Security (BDS) division. The Phantom Works International organisation is responsible for the prototype programmes beyond the United States of America. This role is to lead a major UK UAS project for Phantom Works UK and grow Boeing depth and scale in the UK through innovation.

This post will report into the Senior Manager for Phantom Works UK. The incumbent will partner closely with equivalent managers on other projects, Boeing Defence UK Chief Engineer and the Phantom Works International Chief Engineer. The vision is for the role to lead a multidisciplinary team to deliver this UK-based programme.

The main responsibilities for the role are:

  • Lead a major aerospace UAS project in the UK;
  • Project team staff management to ensure that the project team is:
    • Correctly sized and competent to perform their tasking;
    • Working as a single team with Phantom Works and Boeing Defence UK to deliver success;
    • Career managed and developed to further enhance the team value.
  • Maintaining a close working relationship with the wider Boeing Phantom Works to ensure that reach-across is appropriately used and applied to the project;
  • Ensuring that governance is applied to programmes in terms of the conduct of reviews and adherence to Boeing processes and procedures;
  • Managing supplier interactions;
  • The role will be responsible for ensuring delivery of the project within cost and schedule;
  • Ensuring processes are maintained for UK Phantom Works organisation.

Previous proven experience of leading teams in an innovative dynamic aerospace R&D type environment is essential. Previous UAS experience is also a requirement of the role. Experience of the UK Research and Development community and requirements base is highly desirable.

A high degree of customer interaction is expected, requiring a diplomatic and inclusive outlook ensuring that both the customer and Boeing succeed. Experience of people management and career development, mentoring and coaching are essential. Cost Account Management and schedule management skills are required.

Qualifications

An accredited Engineering degree qualification is an essential requirement with Chartered Engineer recognition being highly desirable. Recognised project management qualifications and relevant aerospace project experience are highly desirable.
