Summary

The Development Engineer Control & Simulations is involved in development and testing of complex (integrated) marine control systems. In the last years Damen has been using advanced Hardware-In-de-Loop (HIL) testing methods for testing these systems, which are often supplied by several subcontractors.

As a Development Engineer Control & Simulations you will be involved early in a new build project. In this phase you assisting the ship designers on designing and specifying the required control systems. In some cases you will be making software simulation in Simulink of the control system. In a later project stage, together with the engineers and suppliers you are coordinating the required HIL testing.

Tasks & Responsibilities

Your tasks & responsibilities as Development Engineer Control & Simulations include:

  • Supporting other departments with design and specification of maritime control systems and component choices which have been made by our suppliers;
  • Taking a leading role in evaluation of control system performance by means of software and HIL simulations;
  • Assisting with the evaluation of the technical performance of ships during engineering, production and commissioning phases;
  • Being actively involved in keeping the simulation equipment and software up to date;
  • Being actively involved in developing, evaluating and managing the required simulation models.

Your Profile

Do you fit our profile of Development Engineer Control & Simulations? You must have:

  • A Bachelor or Master degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in control engineering or a relevant other specialization;
  • At least two years’ relevant experience in the field of marine control systems (testing);
  • Knowledge of ship propulsion and marine system integration;
  • Familiarity with classification and rules and regulations in various countries;
  • Experience of working on a project basis;
  • Practical experience with industrial automation hardware and interfaces;
  • High experience with MATLAB and or Simulink;
  • Experience with dSPACE and Speedgoat simulators;
  • An independent, critical, organized, customer-oriented, good communication skills.
