Job Description Summary

As a Senior Control Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for leading a team of Control& Protection Project Engineers that delivery all aspects of HVDC Control & Protection system, manage overall department engineering resources, workload, schedule, budget and project milestones and also support Tendering.

This includes the following:

  • Developing organizational talent
  • Engineering process management
  • Provide technical guidance.
  • Drive consistent design practices and common global processes for projects.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and technical direction to a to meet project and departmental specific objectives ·
  • Establish and manage the team responsible for leading technical requirements, design, objectives, timing, budget control, engineering resources, workload, schedule, project milestones and assuring conformance to standards and specifications ·
  • Manage the team, provide technical guidance and mentoring as necessary ·
  • Execute plans to achieve goals, effectively communicating results to the customer.
  • Be a natural part of the tendering process and own and drive the standardisation process for the software delivery part.
  • Typically, a 1st line manager of professionals or a 2nd line manager of a professional department. Developing specialized knowledge in their discipline. Serves as best practice/quality resource. Has awareness of latest technical developments in own area. Contributes towards strategy and policy development and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.
  • Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrated with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market.
  • Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology, or engineering. Takes new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.
  • Define the project work breakdown structure (WBS), resources and skill levels required to meet the delivery timescales.
  • Manage overall department engineering resources and workload.
  • Designs and drives improved working processes for efficient live deployment.
  • Deliver requirements by ensuring production of robust and achievable delivery plans.
  • Manages delivery change control at a project and programme level.
  • Ensuring the scope of delivery is understood, including systems and networks where necessary and that the solution meets the business need and that plans are comprehensive and are achieved.
  • Responsible for recruiting, coaching, and/or developing organizational talent.
  • Makes decisions regarding work processes or operational plans and schedules to achieve department objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • Engineering degree or equivalent including power systems and power electronics subjects or proven equivalent knowledge and experience in HVDC business.
  • More than 10 years’ experience in HVDC industry including HVDC station equipment and design.
  • Strong sense of urgency and ability to identify and manage team organisational risks
  • Proven skills in managing and leading team with strong technical background
  • Experienced in Protection & Control system design application and have strong problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analize and resolve problems. Demonstrated ability to lead programs/projects. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills.
  • Proactively serves on cross functional leadership teams; Makes decisions independently; Pulls in experts when needed.
  • Strong communications skills, able to forge strong relationships with peer-level designers, platform managers, developers, engineering, planning and operations managers to explain and drive technology change through the lifecycle.
  • Ability to work with stakeholders to ensure the proposed solution is affordable, deliverable and delivers the required business outcomes.
  • Project management skills to deliver business benefit in a timely way by focusing on must do capability and delivering effective end to end solutions.
  • Issue & Risk Management & change control
  • Innovating to exceed Time, Cost, Quality measures/sharing best practice.
  • Experienced in technology delivery of large-scale projects and Agile delivery practices.
