Position Summary
The Senior Electrical Engineer is a key member of the Engineering team and requires close interaction with the cross-discipline engineering, delivery, manufacturing, construction, and new product introduction teams. In this position the individual is responsible for the specification, design, integration, testing and continual support of high voltage & low voltage electrical equipment for the power distribution or process control of PEM electrolysis-based hydrogen generation systems. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, able to handle multiple assignments and willing to learn and adapt in a fast-paced product engineering organization.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops electrical system requirements, electrical schematics, single line drawings, and field wiring diagrams;
- Responsible for the technical design, including cost efficiency and conformity to customer specifications, as per agreed schedule;
- Responsible for clear and correct engineering documentation;
- Responsible for handling technical communication with external engineering parties and where applicable with clients;
- Responsible for the technical review of supplier quotations;
- Takes ownership of design and additional department requirements;
- Early identification to department head of areas of concern with necessary corrective action identified;
- Ensuring an adequate knowledge level is maintained in the field of expertise;
- Is well-versed with (International) Codes & Standards, e.g. CE, IEC, ATEX, EMC and ensures that designs complies with applicable electrical codes & standards/legislation;
- Is able to specify equipment such as:
- Electrical substations;
- AC/DC Power Converters, Medium Voltage Transformers and Switchgear, Low Voltage Distribution systems;
- Motors and heaters.
- Developing knowledge and skills to be able to address current and future project and market demands;
- Responsible for informing Engineering Manager regarding possible (technical) problems, risks and additional work. Escalating issues to the appropriate management level;
- Is able to delegate work to electrical engineers in Plug Netherlands or Plug India;
- Mentor team members on design work and act as senior technical resource for guidance;
- Represent Plug Power in a professional manner at all times and in all interactions; support the philosophy of the organization to provide high-performing technology to maximize customer satisfaction.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering;
- Has at least 5 years of experience as an electrical engineer, preferably in the renewable energy sector;
- Is interested in pioneering in a rapidly developing industry and is self-driven, intrinsically motivated and committed to enable the clean energy transition;
- Working knowledge of high voltage equipment such as transformers, rectifiers, power supplies, and switchgear required;
- Experience with EU directives (CE, ATEX, EMC, LV) preferred;
- Experience with hazardous area codes & standards (CE, IEC, ATEX, EMC etc.) preferred;
- Experience reading Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s) preferred;
- Must be capable of working independently, in a fast-paced environment, with minimal supervision;
- Sound organizational skills for completing tasks as scheduled;
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written for the purpose of explaining challenges and solutions internally;
- Good interpersonal skills to successfully interface other engineering disciplines and customer.
